Jenny Bindon on her special personalised boots

Football Ferns goalkeeper Jenny Bindon writes about  the new Nike  boots her son Tyler personalised with messages of love and support ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011.

Tyler Bindon's message of support for his mum

Playing for the national team is an awesome achievement in itself but to be selected for the World Cup team that will compete in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany is a childhood dream come true. To play with the best in the world on the world stage is something that will live with me forever.

The past few years I have embarked on this journey with ups and downs but the one thing that keeps me going is the loving support of my family, friends and teammates.  Upon arriving in Switzerland after 30 hours of travel from Auckland- Melbourne-Dubai-Geneva and a 3 hour bus ride I had only three things on my mind; food, shower and sleep.

When I started to unpack my belongings from my suitcase to take the long awaited shower I found purple post-it notes all through my bags. Messages of support, belief and inspiration (you can! you will! I can! I will! :) from my adorable husband that has been my rock. He has supported me through knee surgery, helping to look after Tyler our six year old son so I could train and play and yet he still manages to run his own business and attend university.

A special message of support

So off we went to training, in beautiful Switzerland with amazing views of the mountains.  I open my bag to see that my boots have messages from Tyler written in his best hand writing, telling me he loves me and that he and Dad are so proud.  Tyler loves his football, loves coming to training with the team. If you would ask Tyler if he is a Football Fern he would tell you he is a part of the team.  So I’m feel very lucky to have my own personalised boots to remind me when I step out on the pitch to do my job, and love the game.

Thank you Tyler, Grant and everyone that has sent myself and the Football Ferns messages it means a great deal for us to know that we are backed with unwavering support by our families and our country.
